Nairobi to Amboseli flight time: A scheduled 40 to 45-minute domestic flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL) directly to the Amboseli National Park Airstrip.
Mombasa to Amboseli flight time: A 60-minute seasonal coastal flight from Moi International Airport (MBA) or Ukunda/Diani Airstrip.
Airstrip transfer to camp: A scenic 90-minute game drive through the national park separates the main Amboseli airstrip from Satao Elerai Camp.
Private charter flight options: Guests using private helicopters or chartered planes can land directly at the private Elerai Conservancy Airstrip, located just 15 minutes from the camp.
Nairobi to Amboseli driving time: Approximately 4 to 4.5 hours (around 240 km) via the fully tarmacked Nairobi–Mombasa Highway, turning off south at the Emali junction.
Mombasa to Amboseli driving time: Approximately 5.5 to 6 hours entering through the eastern side via Tsavo and Kimana.
Vehicle requirements for conservancy: A 4x4 safari vehicle with good ground clearance is mandatory to navigate the rugged, unpaved dirt tracks inside the Elerai Conservancy.
June to October (Peak Dry Season): The best time for wildlife viewing at Satao Elerai Camp. As vegetation thins out, massive herds of elephants, giraffes, and apex predators gather continuously around the camp's permanent, floodlit waterhole.
January to February (Short Dry Season): The best time for clear Mount Kilimanjaro views. Early mornings offer crisp, cloudless skies that are absolutely perfect for landscape photography, alongside lower visitor crowds than the summer peak.
November to December (Short Rains / Green Season): The best time for bird watching and emerald photography. Brief afternoon rain showers transform the dusty plains into a lush oasis, triggering migratory bird arrivals and wildlife births.
March to May (Long Rains / Low Season): The best time for budget safari discounts and exclusive travel. While muddy trails present challenging 4x4 driving conditions, it offers dramatic cloud-shrouded mountain vistas and a completely private safari atmosphere away from other vehicles.
