Guests can fly directly from Nairobi's Wilson Airport (WIL), Mombasa, or Diani to Amboseli Airstrip or nearby private conservancy airstrips. The flight from Nairobi takes approximately 45 minutes, offering spectacular aerial views of Kenya’s landscapes and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, guests are met by the camp team and transferred by 4x4 safari vehicle to the lodge.
By Road
The camp is accessible by road from Nairobi via the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway (A109) with a turn-off at Emali towards Loitokitok, or alternatively through the Namanga route. The journey typically takes 4–5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Most of the route is on well-maintained tarmac roads, with the final section following a short dirt track through the conservancy. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended, particularly during the rainy seasons.
Location: Aloca Conservancy, bordering Amboseli National Park, Kenya
Category: Luxury Tented Safari Camp
Setting: Private 35,000-acre conservancy with views of Mount Kilimanjaro and abundant wildlife around a natural dam.
This is the prime time to visit Praro Amboseli Camp. During the dry season, wildlife congregates around water sources and the camp's dam, making game viewing exceptional. Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds, and guests can also spot giraffes, zebras, lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, and various antelope species. Mount Kilimanjaro views are often at their clearest during this period.
The short dry season offers excellent game viewing with fewer visitors than the peak season. Wildlife remains concentrated around water sources, and clear skies provide ideal photography conditions, especially for capturing elephants against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro.
Following the short rains, the conservancy becomes lush and vibrant. Birdlife is abundant, landscapes are beautiful, and visitor numbers are lower. Wildlife viewing remains rewarding thanks to the permanent water sources around the camp.
These are the wettest months in the Amboseli ecosystem. While some roads may become muddy, travelers enjoy:
Lower accommodation rates
Fewer safari vehicles
Lush green scenery
Excellent birdwatching
More exclusive safari experiences
The views of Mount Kilimanjaro can be spectacular after rainfall when the atmosphere is clear.
Located within the private Aloca Conservancy, offering a more exclusive safari experience.
