Your 8-day Kenya safari begins in Nairobi, where you will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, your Nairobi hotel, or your residence. You will be welcomed by your professional safari guide from Imara Africa Safaris, followed by a short briefing about the safari program.
The day begins with a visit to Nairobi National Park, one of the most unique wildlife parks in Africa because it sits close to the city skyline. Despite its location near Nairobi, the park offers a real wildlife experience, with chances to see lions, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and many bird species.
You will also visit Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, known for its elephant conservation work, and the Giraffe Centre, where guests can learn about and interact with Rothschild giraffes. This Nairobi wildlife experience gives travelers a beautiful introduction to Kenya before heading to the national parks and reserves.
After the day’s activities, you will return to your Nairobi hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will check out and depart Nairobi for Amboseli National Park. The drive takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic, road conditions, and the location of your lodge or camp. As you travel south, you will enjoy countryside views, local towns, and changing landscapes along the way.
You will arrive in Amboseli in time for lunch, check into your lodge or camp, and relax briefly after the journey. In the late afternoon, you will proceed for your first evening game drive in Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli is famous for large elephant herds, open plains, wetlands, birdlife, and beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. During the evening game drive, you may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, antelopes, and possibly predators such as lions or cheetahs depending on wildlife movement.
After the game drive, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay in Amboseli.

After breakfast, you will spend the full day exploring Amboseli National Park. This is the best day to experience the park more deeply, with enough time to visit different wildlife areas, open plains, swamp sections, and scenic viewpoints.
Amboseli is one of Kenya’s best places for elephant viewing and wildlife photography. The park is also home to lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, antelopes, and many bird species. On clear mornings and evenings, Mount Kilimanjaro can create one of the most beautiful safari backdrops in East Africa.
You may enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park or return to the lodge for lunch depending on the arrangement. Your guide will plan the route based on wildlife movement, weather, and the best sightings of the day. In the evening, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will check out and depart Amboseli for Lake Naivasha. This is a scenic road transfer through Kenya’s changing landscapes as you travel from the southern plains toward the Great Rift Valley. The drive may take several hours depending on the route, traffic, and stops along the way.
Upon arrival at Lake Naivasha, you will check into your hotel and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you will proceed for a relaxing boat ride on Lake Naivasha, one of Kenya’s beautiful freshwater lakes. During the boat ride, you may see hippos, fish eagles, pelicans, kingfishers, and other birdlife.
After the boat ride, you will continue to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari. This is a special experience where guests can walk among giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and other non-predatory wildlife in a peaceful natural setting. Later, you will return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Lake Naivasha.

After breakfast, you will begin the day with a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park. This park is known for its dramatic cliffs, scenic landscapes, geothermal features, and unique outdoor adventure atmosphere. Depending on the arrangement and guest preference, activities may include sightseeing, light walking, cycling, or exploring the park with your guide.
After the Hell’s Gate experience, you will continue to Lake Nakuru National Park. On arrival, you will check into your lodge or camp and enjoy lunch before relaxing for a short while.
In the evening, you will proceed for a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is known for rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, baboons, birdlife, and beautiful lake scenery. Depending on the season and lake conditions, you may also see flamingos and other water birds. After the evening game drive, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will check out and depart Lake Nakuru for Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive takes you from the Rift Valley lake region toward the open savannah landscapes of the Mara. Along the way, you will enjoy countryside scenery and local towns as you travel toward Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve.
You will arrive in the Masai Mara area in time for lunch or in the afternoon, depending on departure time and road conditions. After check-in and some relaxation, you will visit a Maasai village in the evening. This cultural experience gives guests a chance to learn about Maasai traditions, dances, dress, lifestyle, family structure, and community heritage.
After the village visit, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay in Masai Mara.

After breakfast, you will leave the lodge or camp with packed picnic lunch boxes for a full-day game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve. This is one of the most exciting days of the safari, giving you enough time to explore the open savannah plains, riverine areas, and wildlife-rich sections of the reserve.
Masai Mara is one of Africa’s top safari destinations and is known for excellent wildlife viewing throughout the year. Your professional guide will help you search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, antelopes, and many bird species. Depending on the season, the wider Mara ecosystem may also offer sightings connected to the Great Migration.
You will enjoy picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the reserve before continuing with more game viewing in the afternoon. The full-day game drive gives you the best chance to enjoy the beauty, wildlife, and landscapes of Masai Mara at a relaxed pace. In the evening, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

The drive from Masai Mara to Nairobi takes approximately 5 to 6 hours depending on road conditions, weather, traffic, and stops along the way. Lunch may be arranged en route depending on your travel schedule.

My buddy and I has two incredible experiences in Maasai Mara and Amboseli with iMara Africa Safaris. We had two drivers/guides named Simon (one at each park) that did an amazing job showing us both parks. We reached out to several Kenyan tour operators directly but ultimately selected Imara Africa Safaris due to Wendy's responsiveness, flexibility and attention to detail. We leaned on her experience and input as we crafted what ended up being a 10-day trip across Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli. We were a little nervous at the nature of safari trips where upfront payments are made, but the Imara team delivered as planned, made accommodations for our 2 young girls (8 and 6) and assigned the best driver/guide in Eduard! The trip itself was fantastic. Eduard was timely, patient and informative. We were also amazed at how he navigated all of Kenya with no maps or GPS, and was very successful at identifying animals, sharing fun facts and making the trip very memorable. I would use Imara again in a heartbeat and have recommended them to a few friends since returning home.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to spend a 7 day Lakes & Plains safari with Imara Africa this summer for our honeymoon. From the first message that we sent out asking for quotes and a proposed itinerary all the way to when we landed in Nairobi, Faith was there to make sure we had all of our questions answered and that our experience was exactly what we wanted. She was incredibly accommodating to us, answering at all hours of the day and making sure that we were informed and comfortable with each step of our itinerary and journey. Most of all, we never felt pressured to book or make deposits, which was incredibly important since other companies were actively putting sales pressure on us everyday. Also, the accommodations were all fantastic, clean, and exceptionally hospitable. The food was also delicious. Edward, or the “safari doctor” as we’ve come to know him, is an incredible guide. He is personable, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. He was happy to share everything he knew about each animal that we saw, from a small bird to a leopard that we were fortunate enough to see climbing up a tree with its kill in Maasai Mara. We couldn’t have been more fortunate as we were to be paired with Edward for the past week, and I’m positive that all of Imara’s guides are just as exceptional as he is. We never felt rushed while spending time at each park, and Edward and Faith both worked together to accomplish a small itinerary change, since we wanted to spend a little extra time at the Mara in substitution for another activity. He seemed to be friends with everyone that we encountered across the trip, and it’s clear why that is— he’s a genuinely kind and knowledgeable person, and is great at what he does.
