This 3-day Masai Mara safari is a private road itinerary from Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Masai Mara National Reserve, priced from US$946 per person full board. Crossing the scenic Great Rift Valley, it suits travellers with limited time who want Kenya’s most celebrated reserve in a single short trip.
The itinerary is dedicated to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Day 1 covers the drive from Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley with an evening game drive on arrival; day 2 is a full-day safari experience with picnic lunch, a Maasai village visit and a guided nature walk; day 3 returns to Nairobi after a final scenic morning. The Mara is known for big-cat sightings, elephant herds, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and rich birdlife, and while sightings are never guaranteed, the reserve rewards visitors throughout the year. An optional hot-air balloon safari over the plains can be added if booked in advance.
Three days suits first-time safari travellers, couples, families, small groups, business visitors with a free weekend and international guests connecting through Nairobi. It also works well as a short extension before or after a longer East Africa trip — a quick wildlife escape or pre-tour safari — and travel agents use it as a simple, reliable Mara package supported by a local safari team. Departures operate all year round, and because the vehicle and guide are private, game-drive timing on day 2 can be adjusted to suit the group rather than a fixed schedule. Pickup is arranged from the airport, a hotel or a residence in Nairobi.
The price covers private transfers in a pop-up-roof Land Cruiser with a professional English-speaking guide, all park entry fees, full-board meals, drinking water and Flying Doctors emergency evacuation cover; the complete inclusions list appears further down this page.
Travellers with more time can compare the Masai Mara safari adventure or broaden the route with the 7-day lakes and plains safari, which adds Amboseli and the Rift Valley lakes to the classic Mara experience.

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
3 days · 3 of 3 expanded

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an Imara Africa Safaris representative and briefed on your safari journey. After meeting your guide, you will begin the scenic drive from Nairobi toward the Masai Mara National Reserve, traveling through the beautiful landscapes of the Great Rift Valley.
Along the way, you will stop at the Rift Valley Viewpoint, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the valley floor, take photos, and stretch before continuing toward the Mara region. The drive gives you a good introduction to rural Kenya, with changing scenery, local towns, farmlands, and open landscapes along the route.
Upon arrival at your safari camp, you will check in, enjoy lunch, and have time to relax after the journey. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for your first evening game drive in the Masai Mara. This is a wonderful time to explore the reserve as the light softens and many animals become more active. You may have a chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalo, and predators depending on the day’s movement and wildlife activity.
After the game drive, you will return to camp for dinner and your first overnight stay in the Masai Mara area.

After an early breakfast, you will spend the day exploring the wide savannah plains of the Masai Mara National Reserve. This full-day safari experience gives you more time to follow wildlife movement across different sections of the reserve and enjoy the classic landscapes that make the Mara one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.
The Masai Mara is known for its strong wildlife population, including lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and many species of antelope. With some luck and good timing, you may also have a chance to see leopards or rhinos, although sightings depend on season, location, and natural wildlife behavior.
During the day, you will enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild, allowing you to spend more time inside the reserve without returning to camp. The experience also includes a visit to a Maasai village, where you can learn about Maasai traditions, homestead life, dress, songs, and cultural heritage. A guided nature walk is also included, offering a slower and more detailed way to appreciate the surrounding landscape, smaller wildlife signs, plants, tracks, and local ecology.
In the evening, you will return to camp for dinner. Depending on camp arrangements and weather conditions, you can enjoy a relaxed sunset and campfire experience, a beautiful way to end a full safari day in the Mara.

Optional Extras

Your final safari morning begins with breakfast in the Masai Mara. Depending on the camp schedule and departure timing, you may enjoy a gentle morning nature walk and a final cultural visit to a traditional Manyatta, a Maasai homestead where you can gain more insight into local community life and traditions.
After check-out, you will begin the scenic drive back to Nairobi. The return journey gives you another chance to enjoy the countryside views, open landscapes, and local towns along the route. A stop for souvenir shopping will be included, giving you time to buy handmade crafts, local gifts, beadwork, or keepsakes from your Kenya safari.
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, your hotel, residence, or preferred drop-off location depending on your onward travel plans. This marks the end of your 3-day Masai Mara safari with Imara Africa Safaris.
