An Ultra-Luxury Wilderness Sanctuary Nestled on a Working Tea Plantation at the Edge of Nyungwe Forest
One&Only Nyungwe House offers luxury accommodations, stunning views, guided forest walks, and world-class amenities in Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest, perfect for nature lovers and eco-tourists.
One&Only Nyungwe House is Rwanda's benchmark for rainforest luxury: an ultra-exclusive 22-room retreat set on a working tea plantation at the edge of Nyungwe Forest National Park. Butler care, farm-to-table gastronomy and a heated pool deck cantilevered towards the canopy define a stay that is as restorative as it is adventurous.
The lodge lies in Nyamasheke, south-western Rwanda, roughly 230 km from Kigali — a 5 to 5.5-hour scenic drive, a 30-minute RwandAir flight to Kamembe followed by a 45-minute transfer, or a 35 to 45-minute helicopter charter to the on-site helipad. Nyungwe is one of Africa's oldest montane rainforests: chimpanzee trekking, colobus monkey tracking, the famous canopy walkway, waterfall trails and exceptional birdwatching all start close to the door.
The 22 keys range from Forest View and Deluxe Rooms to One- and Two-Bedroom Villas with private terraces facing tea fields and rainforest. All-inclusive rates cover gourmet farm-to-table dining, premium wines and spirits, forest picnics and boma dinners, with a spa and firepit lounge for the evenings. Traditional archery, spear throwing and interactive tea plantation tours round out days between treks, while waterfall trails suit gentler mornings.
Nyungwe House pairs classically with gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park in the country's north, creating Rwanda's definitive twin-primate luxury itinerary.
Elegant rooms with private balconies offering stunning views of the Nyungwe Forest, featuring king-sized or twin beds and en-suite bathrooms.
More spacious rooms with enhanced décor, offering larger living space, premium amenities, and expansive views of the surrounding rainforest.
Luxurious villas with separate living areas, a king-sized bed, a private terrace, and personal service for a more intimate experience in the forest.
Ideal for families or small groups, featuring two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a large outdoor terrace for enjoying the spectacular scenery.

By Road from Kigali: Located roughly 230 km southwest of Kigali city. The scenic road journey takes approximately 5 to 5.5 hours along fully paved, smooth winding mountain tarmac roads through Huye (Butare) and Nyanza, cutting directly through the beautiful national park.
By Air / Helicopter: The resort features its own private on-site helipad. Travelers can charter a scenic helicopter transfer from Kigali International Airport (KGL) directly to the resort lawn, reducing transit times to exactly 35 to 45 minutes.
By Scheduled Commercial Air: Scheduled domestic flights operated by RwandAir fly from Kigali to Kamembe Airport (Cyangugu) in roughly 30 minutes. From Kamembe, the resort is a comfortable 45-minute scenic road drive away.
Dry Peak Months (June to August & December to February): The absolute premier window for chimpanzee tracking and canopy walks. Forest trails are firmer, making hiking less demanding, and sunny clear sky days are ideal for plantation tours and infinity pool relaxation.
Green Months (March to May & September to November): The rainforest turns into a stunning, dense emerald green paradise. While tropical rains are common, chimpanzees are often much easier to track because food is abundant on the lower canopy levels, meaning they don't migrate into the deep valleys. It is a spectacular, quiet season for serious bird watchers and photographers.
