Luxury Riverside Safari Camp in Samburu National Reserve
Elephant Bedroom Camp is an intimate luxury tented safari camp set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve. Surrounded by doum palms and frequented by free-roaming elephants, the camp offers an authentic wilderness experience with elegant accommodation, private plunge pools, exceptional wildlife viewing and personalized safari adventures.
Elephant Bedroom Camp earns its name honestly: elephants wander freely between the tents, browsing the doum palms that shade this intimate stretch of the Ewaso Nyiro riverbank. Among Samburu's camps it stands out for combining that close-quarters wildlife theatre with private plunge pools and refined tented comfort.
The camp occupies a palm-fringed bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River inside Samburu National Reserve in Kenya's arid north. Beyond the resident elephants, game drives seek out the Samburu Special Five - Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx and gerenuk - alongside lion and leopard drawn to the river. Bush walks, cultural visits and photography outings extend the experience.
The 14 luxury tents, including family units, are dressed in rich safari textiles with wide decks and private plunge pools facing the river. A star-gazing deck, sundowner terrace and photography hide reflect a camp built by and for wildlife lovers, with bush breakfasts and river-bank dinners as signatures. Sundowner cocktails, picnic lunches and private dining fill out a full-board plan that caters equally to vegetarian and vegan guests.
Samburu's dry-country species complement the Masai Mara National Reserve; arrive smoothly with the 3-day fly-in Maasai Mara safari as the southern leg.

Upon arrival, guests are met by the camp team and transferred to the camp on a short game-drive transfer, often with wildlife sightings along the way.

Located along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve, Elephant Bedroom Camp is one of Kenya's most intimate luxury tented camps. The camp is famous for elephants frequently walking through the property, its riverside setting under doum palms, and excellent access to Samburu's unique wildlife species.
This is the prime time to visit. During the dry season, wildlife concentrates around the Ewaso Nyiro River, making game viewing exceptional. The weather is generally sunny with cooler evenings, and sightings of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the famous Samburu Special Five are excellent.
The short dry season is another outstanding time to stay at the camp. Animals continue to gather around water sources, vegetation is thinner, and photography conditions are superb. Visitor numbers are often lower than during the mid-year peak season.
Following the short rains, Samburu becomes greener and more scenic. Birdwatching is excellent, landscapes are beautiful for photography, and wildlife viewing remains rewarding thanks to the permanent river system.
These are generally the wettest months. While some roads may become muddy, travelers benefit from:
Lower accommodation rates
Fewer safari vehicles
Lush green landscapes
Outstanding birdwatching
More exclusive safari experiences
The reserve remains beautiful and wildlife is still present year-round.
Located directly on the Ewaso Nyiro River inside Samburu National Reserve.

Excellent opportunities to see the Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx.
Less crowded than many southern Kenya safari destinations, offering a more exclusive wilderness experience.
