A Luxury Riverside Safari Base in the Heart of the Masai Mara
Ashnil Mara Camp offers luxury tented accommodation overlooking the Mara River in the Masai Mara, with private decks, excellent dining, pool, and easy access to game drives and wildlife viewing.
Ashnil Mara Camp is a substantial luxury tented camp on the banks of the Mara River inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, close to the crossing points that define migration season. It combines classic canvas-and-deck safari ambience with full-lodge facilities — pool, spa services and an open-air bar — at accessible mid-range rates.
The camp overlooks the Mara River within the reserve, reached by a 45 to 60-minute scheduled flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to a nearby Mara airstrip, or a 5 to 6-hour road journey via Narok. From July to October wildebeest and zebra herds funnel towards the river, with crocodiles waiting at the crossings; year-round residents include lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and giraffe, and hippos grunt in the river below the tents.
The 56 tents sit on raised platforms with spacious interiors and private wooden decks facing the bush; Deluxe Triple and Family Tents accommodate larger parties. Dining spans full board with bush breakfasts and dinners, and the children's pool and playground make the camp genuinely family-workable. Wi-Fi, spa and massage services and an open-air bar and lounge complete a generous facility list for a tented property.
Ashnil anchors time in the Masai Mara National Reserve and features naturally on road circuits such as the 5-day midrange Kenya safari.
Designed to accommodate three adults or small groups, featuring three single beds and all standard tent comforts.
Interconnecting tents or larger setup for families, offering multiple beds, en‑suite facilities, and a spacious deck to enjoy the Mara landscape together.

Located on the banks of the Mara River within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Ashnil Mara Camp is one of the best-positioned camps for wildlife viewing and the Great Wildebeest Migration. The camp is close to major river crossing points and offers luxury tented accommodation with excellent access to year-round game viewing.
This is the peak safari season and the best time to stay at Ashnil Mara Camp. The Great Migration passes through the Maasai Mara during these months, with spectacular wildebeest river crossings and intense predator activity. The camp's location near the Mara River makes it ideal for witnessing this natural phenomenon.
The short dry season offers outstanding game viewing with fewer visitors than migration season. Wildlife is easier to spot due to shorter grass, and predator sightings are often exceptional. This is also one of the best times for photography.
Following the short rains, the Mara becomes lush and green. Birdwatching is excellent, landscapes are beautiful, and visitor numbers are lower. Wildlife viewing remains rewarding thanks to the reserve's abundant resident wildlife.
These are generally the wetter months. Guests benefit from:
Lower accommodation rates
Fewer safari vehicles
Beautiful green scenery
Excellent birdwatching
A quieter safari experience
Although rainfall is higher, wildlife viewing remains possible throughout the reserve.
Located directly within the Maasai Mara National Reserve near the Mara River.
Close to major migration crossing points.
Luxury tented accommodation with views of the plains and river.
Excellent year-round wildlife viewing including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and crocodiles.
Features a swimming pool, restaurant, spa services, and bush dining experiences.
