An Elegant Luxury Lodge Suspended High Above the Mara Triangle
Angama Mara is a luxury safari lodge in the Maasai Mara with glass‑fronted tented suites, dramatic escarpment views, personalised safari experiences, and exceptional service.
Angama Mara, whose name means suspended in mid-air in Swahili, is one of Africa's most photographed lodges, perched high on the Oloololo escarpment overlooking the Mara Triangle. Floor-to-ceiling glass fronts, a private airstrip on the property and genuinely inclusive rates covering meals, drinks, safaris and butler service define its effortless style of luxury.
The lodge stands on the western rim of the Masai Mara ecosystem, roughly 1,000 feet above the plains of the Mara Triangle, with daily 40 to 45-minute flights from Nairobi Wilson landing at the on-site Angama airstrip; by road the journey via Narok and the Oloololo Gate takes 6 to 7 hours. Below, the Triangle hosts dense concentrations of big cats, elephant and buffalo, and from July to October the Great Migration herds and river crossings play out directly beneath the escarpment.
Thirty tented suites of around 100 square metres are split between two intimate camps of 15, each suite fronted by 30 feet of glass with polished wooden floors and contemporary interiors; interconnected family suites are available. A photographic studio, shamba garden lunches and 1920s-style kopje picnics add signature flourishes. Guided walking safaris along the escarpment rim, beading sessions and visits to the shamba vegetable garden fill the hours between game drives on the plains far below the lodge.
See the plains up close in the Masai Mara National Reserve, most efficiently on the 3-day fly-in Maasai Mara safari.
Ideal for families or small groups, these consist of two adjoining tented suites with flexible bed configurations, allowing privacy and shared spaces so families can enjoy their safari together.
Elegant and expansive, each suite features a super‑king bed (which can be set as twins), floor‑to‑ceiling glass frontage with uninterrupted views over the Mara plains, a sitting area, and luxurious finishes. Interiors are modern and warm with polished wooden floors and high‑end furnishings.

By Road: Located on the far western boundary of the reserve. Driving from Nairobi covers approximately 300 km and takes 6 to 7 hours. The route goes through Narok before tackling the unpaved, rougher sections leading up the escarpment to enter through the Oloololo Gate.
By Air: Daily scheduled flights depart from Nairobi Wilson Airport (WIL) and land directly at the private Angama Airstrip or adjacent Kichwa Tembo Airstrip. Flight time is roughly 40 to 45 minutes. Because the landing strip is situated directly on the property grounds, the safari vehicle transfer from your aircraft to the lobby takes less than 5 minutes.
Peak Season (July to October): This is the prime window for watching the Great Migration. The massive herds of wildebeest and zebras move directly through the Mara Triangle below the lodge, making it incredibly easy to map crossings and major predator action.
Shoulder & Green Season (November to June): Offers beautifully lush green landscapes, clear photography skies, and excellent resident big cat tracking. Migratory bird patterns are outstanding from November to April, and the plains are far less populated with safari vehicles
