Your tailor-made safari quote: what's included?
A tailor-made safari quote is only useful when its inclusions are clear. Compare rooms, meals, vehicles, park fees and booking terms before paying a deposit.

A Masai Mara lodge stay and a Rwanda gorilla trek need different cost breakdowns. The word premium does not establish what is included in a safari package. Named services, quantities and written terms do.
Use this example to sort East Africa safari inclusions before comparing prices. It illustrates common arrangements, not Imara’s contractual policy.
Compare the whole-party total for identical dates, occupancy and arrangements. A lower per-person headline means little until both proposals cover the same services.
Similar Kenya routes and named hotels initially looked comparable to one first-time traveller. During Imara’s comparison, park fees, taxes and meal plans changed the value assessment. The headline price had concealed important differences.
“My advice is to check every meal, park fee and drinks inclusion, rather than relying on the headline price alone.”
Imara’s stated approach aims to include applicable park fees, taxes, specified meals and drinking water in the safari vehicle. That describes its quotation approach, not a guarantee covering every possible package. Each proposal still needs checking.
Travel-day lunches deserve particular attention. Room water also differs from drinks ordered in a restaurant or bar. Imara’s advice from this comparison is clear: check every meal, park fee and drinks inclusion.
“A lodge name describes where travellers sleep; the inclusions explain what they are paying for.”
Salt Lick Safari Lodge has distinct Waterhole View and Park View categories. Its own fact sheet lists both, so matching lodge names do not establish matching rooms.

Imara has quoted Waterhole View rooms at Salt Lick Safari Lodge. These face the waterhole, while Park View rooms look towards the surrounding sanctuary. For travellers keen to watch animals between drives, the outlook matters.
Every accommodation entry should specify:
Accommodation cards provide starting points for tailored choices, not equivalent products. Ask for the single supplement as a stated amount, not an assumed percentage.
Three listed meals do not settle the drinks question. Ask for a day-by-day breakfast, lunch and dinner schedule. Arrival, departure and transfer days need particular care.
Imara distinguishes water supplied in the vehicle or room from restaurant and bar orders. Travellers should request written confirmation of soft drinks, alcohol and premium-brand exclusions. “Drinking water included” should name where it is supplied.
Zanzibar needs a separate meal-plan check after the safari. For a Tanzania safari and Zanzibar proposal, confirm the beach property’s meals and drinks independently. Imara’s published example specifies meals by itinerary and treats unlisted meals separately.
Masai Mara–Lake Nakuru–Lake Naivasha proposals should define exclusivity throughout the route. Ask whether the vehicle and driver-guide serve only the booking during game drives and transfers.
Does the vehicle serve only this booking during both game drives and transfers between destinations?
Is the quoted vehicle a safari van or 4×4 Land Cruiser, and what seating, luggage space and viewing roof are provided?
Who guides each segment, in which language, and are any specialist guiding services charged separately?
After a fly-in transfer, are camp game drives private or shared, and are airstrip transfers included?

Imara’s author highlights a common wording gap: private Mara drives followed by unspecified transfers. Its private road-safari quotations state the vehicle and exclusive use for the group. A private Kenya road safari provides a useful route for checking those details.
Request the guide’s language, scheduled game-drive provision and any specialist guiding charges. Road and fly-in itinerary cards show different transport structures; they are not like-for-like price comparisons.
Nairobi, Arusha, Entebbe and Kigali arrangements should name each airport, airstrip and transfer. Ask which transfers are private or shared. Identify any hotel night needed between flight connections.
Request the total baggage allowance, bag dimensions and whether hand luggage and cameras count. Safarilink’s standard safari allowance is 15 kg including those items, with route exceptions. ([flysafarilink.com](https://www.flysafarilink.com/travel-information/terms?utm_source=openai))
The author advises a small soft duffel and describes complimentary storage at Imara’s office. Confirm the storage location, handover and collection arrangements in the proposal.
Where routing allows, the author describes arranging road transport for larger cases while guests fly. Obtain any transfer cost in advance; do not assume onward delivery is complimentary.
Each domestic flight entry should state the airline, route, taxes, fare conditions and baggage allowance. Safarilink specifies 15 kg total baggage, including hand baggage and cameras, on standard safari services. Certain coastal and regional routes allow 20 kg; check every booked sector.
Use the Kenya fly-in safari options to identify those flight and transfer questions. Do not carry one airline’s allowance across an entire East Africa itinerary.
Imara’s practical solution for oversized suitcases is a small, soft duffel for the bush flight. The author describes complimentary office storage and possible onward luggage transport where routing permits. Confirm storage, collection and any transfer costs in the individual proposal.
Check international flights, excess baggage and personal laundry separately. Additional baggage needs airline approval and available capacity. Imara’s guide to what to pack for safari helps travellers plan around the booked allowance.
Masai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Naivasha need separate cost checks. For routes adding Samburu National Reserve or Amboseli National Park, request every applicable park, reserve, conservancy and vehicle charge.

Discover Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife destinations and home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Nestled in the mist-covered hills of southwestern Uganda, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers unforgettable gorilla trekking experiences, breathtaking rainforest landscapes, and incredible biodiversity. Visitors can encounter endangered mountain gorillas, colorful birdlife, unique primates, and rich cultural heritage while exploring one of Africa's oldest and most biologically diverse tropical forests.
Specify additional destinations before repricing. Exploring Samburu safari possibilities should prompt a revised route and fee breakdown, not an assumption that existing charges cover the extension.
On Imara’s Serengeti–Ngorongoro–Tarangire–Zanzibar proposals, applicable park fees, concession fees and Ngorongoro crater vehicle charges form part of the scheduled arrangements. Ask which charges apply within Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park.
The author finds permit validity needs particular explanation. Request the entry conditions and time limits for each scheduled visit. A 24-hour permit does not automatically grant unlimited re-entry.
Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park require the activity, date, visitor category and permit quantity to be stated. Standard tracking and habituation experiences should never be treated as interchangeable.
Rwanda Development Board publishes the Rwanda rate and viewing limit. Uganda Wildlife Authority publishes the standard and low-season figures. Reconfirm the applicable rate, eligibility and conditions for the proposed trek date.
For Volcanoes National Park trekking or Bwindi gorilla trekking, distinguish the park trekking guide from the itinerary’s driver-guide. Uganda’s standard permit includes guiding, that day’s park entrance and a community contribution. Ask separately about porters, transfers and accommodation.
Request a tax-inclusive holiday total, with any charges still payable locally clearly identified.
Lake Naivasha on an itinerary does not establish inclusion of a boat trip or Crescent Island walk. Imara’s author identifies these as experiences first-time travellers often assume are covered. Both the boat charge and island admission need listing.
Separate scheduled game drives from balloon flights, guided walks and cultural visits. Imara’s published Tanzania-and-Zanzibar example also labels island excursions as optional. These include snorkelling, spice tours, Stone Town visits and dhow cruises.
Travellers should name their priority experiences before comparing proposals. Adding them later requires a fresh cost check, not an assumption that the package absorbs them.
July–October and January–February are familiar Kenya planning windows. Kenya Tourism Board identifies July–October and December–March as popular periods, but suitable dates depend on the route and wildlife interests.
Imara repriced one February itinerary for September without changing the route or accommodation. Seasonal accommodation rates changed, as did the Masai Mara fees. The author’s comparison used these non-resident adult rates:
The Mara Conservancy’s published schedule supports these seasonal figures; reconfirm the applicable tariff when quoting. Park-fee seasons and individual lodge seasons need not match.
For private safari costs, request the currency, per-person price and whole-party total. Check occupancy assumptions, single supplements, payment charges and how exchange-rate changes are handled.
Mara Serena was fully booked when Imara checked a proposed 10–13 August stay. Alternatives were needed, alongside a review of accommodation costs. The example shows why a quotation is not a reservation.
Imara reconfirms availability and the total before requesting payment. It then proceeds with supplier bookings following the deposit, subject to availability. Any temporary room or flight hold should have an explicit expiry.
Before paying, request written answers covering:
The author’s key question is practical: how much would cancellation cost at each stage, including all supplier charges?
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda proposals become easier to compare once each uses the same brief. Check these points before accepting a tailor-made safari quote:
Keep common safari package exclusions visible: international flights, visas or other entry authorisations, insurance, gratuities, optional activities and personal spending. Imara’s published Tanzania example separately lists flights, documentation, personal expenses, tips and unspecified activities or meals.
Any evacuation assistance needs its own scope check. Ask what it covers, its limits and exclusions; do not treat it as comprehensive travel insurance without confirmation.
Travellers comparing East Africa proposals can request an itemised proposal from Imara Africa Safaris. Sharing dates, party details and preferred experiences gives the team a clear basis for meaningful comparisons.
