Perched dramatically on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, this lodge offers some of the most spectacular views in Africa. Its location provides direct access to the crater floor, home to over 25,000 animals, including the Big Five and one of Tanzania's best populations of endangered black rhinos.
This is the most recommended time to stay at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. During the dry season, wildlife concentrates around permanent water sources, grass is shorter, and game viewing is at its peak. Clear skies and excellent visibility make this the ideal period for photography and first-time safari visitors.
These months coincide with the wildebeest calving season in the nearby Ndutu and southern Serengeti areas. Thousands of calves are born, attracting predators and creating incredible wildlife interactions. The landscapes are green and beautiful, making this one of the best periods for photographers.
The short rains bring lush scenery, fewer crowds, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Afternoon showers are usually brief and rarely disrupt safari activities. Wildlife remains abundant throughout the crater.
This is the wettest period of the year. While rainfall is more frequent, the crater becomes incredibly green and photogenic. Visitor numbers are lower, accommodation rates are often more attractive, and wildlife viewing remains surprisingly good because many animals are resident within the crater year-round.
Built directly into the crater rim with breathtaking panoramic views.
One of the closest lodges to crater descent roads, allowing early access for game drives.
Excellent opportunities to see the Big Five, including the rare black rhino.
Ideal base for combining Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara safaris.
Everything you need to plan an unforgettable African adventure.
