Is April a good time to visit Rwanda?
Green season — easier permits in Rwanda. April is one of Rwanda's wettest months. Trails are muddy but Volcanoes NP is at its greenest, and gorilla permits can be easier to secure. April is the green season — the cheapest and quietest time to safari, best suited to flexible, adventurous travellers and birders. The long rains bring lush scenery, dramatic skies and the lowest rates of the year, with very few other visitors. Wildlife is still very much present but spreads out as water becomes widely available, and some access roads get muddy. Days stay warm (around 15–28°C). A few seasonal camps close for maintenance.
Great Migration in April
Herds move through the central and western Serengeti with the rains; the rut begins.

Why go on safari in April
Best value of the year
Green-season rates are the lowest on the calendar — premium camps at a fraction of peak pricing.

Birding at its best
Migratory birds are present and many residents are in breeding plumage — a birder's highlight.
April safaris in depth
April is the wettest month across much of East Africa, with the long rains in full swing. Rain typically falls in heavy afternoon bursts rather than all-day drizzle, leaving plenty of time for game drives. The reward is scenery at its most beautiful — emerald plains, full rivers and thundery skies that make for moody, memorable photography.
This is the green season at its most authentic: the lowest prices of the year, near-empty parks and a real sense of wilderness. Wildlife is still abundant but more dispersed as water is everywhere. A handful of seasonal camps close for refurbishment, and some unsurfaced roads become slippery, so a good guide and 4x4 matter. For value, birding and solitude, April is hard to beat.
