Your complete seasonal guide for planning the perfect safari in Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.
The Masai Mara is a year-round safari destination, with each season offering a distinct experience. The most popular time to visit is from July to October, during the Great Migration, when large herds of wildebeest and zebras move into the reserve from the Serengeti, attracting predators and creating dramatic wildlife encounters, particularly along the Mara River. The dry seasons from December to March and June to October are generally considered the best for game viewing, as animals gather around water sources and vegetation is thinner, making wildlife easier to spot. These months also offer pleasant weather and clear skies, ideal for photography. From April to May, during the long rains, the reserve becomes lush and green with fewer visitors, offering a quieter and more exclusive experience. While wildlife is still present, some roads may be difficult to access, and game viewing can be slightly more challenging due to thicker vegetation.
