Day to day

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival Airport - Transfer to Hotel (38 km, 30 minutes - 1 hour)

Start your first day on Kenyan safari with a day in Kenya’s capital of Nairobi. We will collect your from the airport and transfer you to Anga Afrika  Camp. Here, you can relax in the camps luscious gardens for the day, or venture further.

Take a taxi to the center of bustling Nairobi and pick up local handicrafts and try some delicious local street food. Roam markets, people watch, and drink in the city before you head into the natural wilds of the Masai Mara.

If you’re ready for nature, and time allows, take an additional tour to nearby Nairobi National Park. Here you can see lions watching over the cityscape and giraffes tussling with towers for skyline dominance. The half day trip is a great value add-on with extra costs.

Your accommodation will be at Wildebeest Eco Camp. Sleep under canvas and acclimatise yourself for the rest of your trip. Drink in the luxury and listen to the nature as you begin to appreciate the beginning of your African safari adventure.

Take a dip in the infinity pool, relax in the guest lounge, join other guests around the fire pit, and have dinner at the on-sight restaurant. Ready yourself for the wonders that await; your safari starts in the morning.

The first day of your African safari tour includes:

Day 2 - Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve (265 km, 5 to 6 hours)

Rise early and depart Wildebeest Eco Camp after breakfast. Your private safari vehicle will track west through the Kenyan countryside and into the Masai Mara. Drink in the changing scenery as you leave the urban sprawl of Nairobi and pass through agricultural lands.

You pass through the wonder of the Great African Rift Valley on your journey. The majesty of the landscape is a fitting start to your African safari. Your guide knows the best photo opportunities and will stop in the right place.

Lunch is served in Narok town, before your head into the Masai Mara National Reserve for the first time. As you take your first foray into the iconic national reserve, you’ll go straight to your chosen accommodation, with ample chance to spot animals such as:

  • Giraffes
  • Elephants
  • Lions
  • Zebras

And other famed creatures of the Masai Mara.

The task of the afternoon is to find the wildebeest migration. Your expert Kenyan safari guide will know which areas of the park are likely to have the wildebeest, zebra, elands, and other hooved animals that join in the movements.

Following your first adventure into the Masai Mara, return to your camp, lodge, or hotel for dinner. You’ll have chance to appreciate the Mara at night, with various viewing decks and galleries available, depending on which accommodation you choose.

Day 3 - Full Day inside Masai Mara National Reserve

Rise early to catch the early sunlight out on the plains. Nocturnal animals go to sleep and hand over to the day shift. Taking advantage of the cool air, herbivores graze and predators stalk.

Your safari will track the known locations of the herds of Wildebeest that range over the park. The animals don’t move as one solid pack so there are chances to see them across different regions, sometimes grazing, other times striding purposely across the Masai Mara.

Each experience of the wildebeest migration will be different, but you’re highly likely to find the migrating packs. Life continues across the grasses, migration or no. You’ll have chance to spot over 400 species of bird during your safari tour, plus plentiful animals, even if the wildebeest aren’t around on your first full day.

Lunch will be served picnic style whilst out on your game drive. Feast surrounded by nature with animals in close proximity. Drink in the surroundings as you stop moving for a little while.

Use the afternoon to continue your exploration. Stick with the wildebeest herds you’ve found or venture on in search of other groupings. With your safari tour guide only working with you, the choice is your where to go and what do.

Dinner is back at your camp or lodge, where you rest up after a long day out on the plains.

Day 4 - Full Day inside Masai Mara National Reserve

Another morning out on the plains will see you track down herds of wildebeest and the other animals that take part in the migration. The day starts with breakfast at your camp or lodge before launching your day’s adventure.

With such an abundance of prey around, the chances of you seeing big cats such as:

  • Lions
  • Leopards
  • Cheetahs

Stalk and attack animals are high. Your expert Kenyan safari guide knows what to look for when a pride is ready to attack and will aim to show you the circle of life in motion.

Lunch will be served as a picnic, allowing you all the time possible out in the park. By staying out on the savannah, you give yourself chance to explore deeper into the landscape, not being tied into being too close to your camp or lodge.

Continue your afternoon’s exploration with the herds you found in the morning or look for other groups of animals to observe and marvel at. Plenty of other famous African safari fauna will be around with there being food aplenty after the rains have brought new life to the lands.

Watch the sun go down and the sky turn glorious shades of orange, red, and purple. Return to your accommodation for dinner before turning in for a good night’s rest, ready for more Masai Mara time the following day.

Day 5 - Full Day inside Masai Mara National Reserve

As you time exploring the Masai Mara comes to an end, spend your last complete day following the migrating wildebeest. Following breakfast, you’ll get in your safari vehicle and either go towards the same herds as the day before or choose to find new adventures and new crowds of animals.

Each day on safari is different. Even going to the same herd of wildebeest or zebra will present you new experiences. Some days will be spent grazing, other actively moving across the landscape, other still dodging predators. Your safari guide will be on hand to explain behaviors and name species as you go.

Following your next picnic lunch, you’re invited to visit a village of the Masai people. Here, you’ll be greeted with a traditional song and dance before being offered a tour around the village. Educate yourself on their customs and lifestyle and take the opportunity to go into a village home.

A usually nomadic people, the Masai villages are a unique culture that have thrived in this landscape for generations. They can offer you insight into live in this environment. As an optional extra on your safari there’s an additional fee of $25 to visit the village.

Spend your last evening in your camp or lodge and take advantage of extras available such as massages and spa treatments, ready to cross border tomorrow.

Day 6 - Masai Mara – Serengeti National Park (North) (350 km, 7 to 8 hours)

An early start is in order to get you across to Tanzania and into the Serengeti. Following a hearty breakfast at your camp or lodge, you’ll have one final game drive as you leave the park.

From the park, you’ll drive through the Kenyan countryside and see how normal life is away from the cities. Once you arrive at the border, you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant – your last taste of Kenyan food before stamping out of the country.

Your border crossing should be smooth and your tour guide will be on hand to help with unexpected issues. From Isebania border checkpoint, you’ll track a direct course over to the Serengeti. Your first experience of the park will be in the northern region, where you’ll have chosen your accommodation with our support.

En-route to the camp or lodge, you’ll have your first magical experience of the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. Your afternoon and evening are your own upon arrival. The trip is long so take advantage of the additional facilities, with different accommodation offering:

Dinner will be your first taste of Tanzanian food before heading to bed to rest up, ready for more wildebeest migration the next morning.

Day 7 - Full Day inside Serengeti National Park (North)

Wake up early for your first adventure-filled day inside Serengeti National Park. After a big breakfast, make your way out on your first full game drive.

Your expert African safari guide will use their knowledge and local contacts to discover where the wildebeest are, along with:

  • Zebras
  • Gazelles
  • Gnus

And other animals who go along for the ride.

In the north of the Serengeti, where you’ll spend your first day in Tanzania, is the Kogatende River. During the mass migration seasons, it’s likely to see river crossing nearly every day. The spectacle you’ve seen so many times in nature documentaries will be in full sight, right in front of you.

Crocodiles sit in wait in the river whilst big cats stalk the crossing point, all waiting for a migrating wildebeest to make a mistake. The event is thrilling, whether there’s a major incident or not. The photos and memories you’ll take away from a river crossing will last you a lifetime of tales.

Lunch will be taken out in the wilds to get all the time you can immersed in nature. After a thrilling day, you’ll journey back to your camp or lodge for dinner and rest.

The second day of your Tanzanian safari includes:

Day 8 - Serengeti North – Serengeti National Park (Central)

After a hearty breakfast at the camp, we shall drive to Serengeti central, Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park and a world heritage site.

The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers an amazing game-viewing in Africa, with great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffes.

The third day of your Tanzanian safari includes:

Day 9 - Full Day inside Serengeti National Park (Central)

After breakfast, enjoy a full day game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The area around Lobo and the Grumeti River has good resident game throughout the year. Non-migrating game like African elephant, African buffalo, gazelle, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah can be seen here all year round.

The game viewing is very good and you can follow game for long periods without seeing other safari vehicles – truly one of the forgotten corners of the Serengeti Plains. Magnificent riverine trees can be found along the river lines and bird life such as kingfishers and fish eagles can be found here.

Day 10 - Serengeti National Park – Arusha (370 km, 6 to 7 hours)

After breakfast we shall bid farewell to the hotel staff and depart for Arusha en-route with a morning game drive. We shall arrive in Arusha in the afternoon, and after lunch, we shall drive you to the airport for your flight back home or your next destination.

Included in your fifth and final day of your Tanzanian safari:
