Sarova Mara Game Camp is located in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, approximately 260 km from Nairobi. Guests can reach the camp by road, air, or as part of an organized safari package.
By Air: The fastest and most convenient option is a scheduled flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to nearby airstrips such as Keekorok or Ol Kiombo. The flight takes approximately 45–60 minutes, followed by a short 10–20-minute transfer to the camp. Flights are also available from Kenya's coastal destinations, including Mombasa and Diani.
By Road: Guests can enjoy a scenic drive from Nairobi through the Great Rift Valley and Narok town to the Maasai Mara. The journey takes approximately 5–6 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended, particularly during the rainy season.
Private Transfers & Safari Packages: Private road transfers, fly-in safaris, and customized safari packages can be arranged through tour operators, offering a seamless journey with accommodation, transport, and game drives included.
Sarova Mara Game Camp is a year-round safari destination, but the best time to visit depends on the experience you are looking for. The dry season from June to October offers exceptional wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and vegetation is shorter, making sightings easier. This period also coincides with the world-famous Great Wildebeest Migration, with vast herds of wildebeest and zebras crossing into the Maasai Mara between July and October, creating some of Africa’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles.
For travelers seeking fewer crowds and lush scenery, the short rains from November to December provide beautiful green landscapes, excellent birdwatching opportunities, and good game viewing at more relaxed safari rates. Photographers particularly enjoy this season due to the dramatic skies and vibrant colors across the plains.
The January to March period is another excellent time to visit, offering warm weather, clear skies, fewer visitors, and outstanding wildlife encounters. Predator sightings remain excellent, and the open grasslands make game viewing highly rewarding.
While April and May mark the long rainy season, the Mara transforms into a lush paradise with thriving vegetation, newborn animals, and lower accommodation rates. Although some roads may become muddy, guests can enjoy a quieter and more exclusive safari experience.
Recommended Months: July to October for the Great Migration and peak wildlife viewing, or January to March for excellent game viewing with fewer crowds.
Everything you need to plan an unforgettable African adventure.
