Located in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Muthu Keekorok Lodge is easily accessible by both air and road, making it a convenient base for exploring the Mara.
By Air: The fastest option is a scheduled flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to Keekorok Airstrip, which takes approximately 45–60 minutes. Upon arrival, guests enjoy a short 10-minute transfer to the lodge. Flights are also available from other safari destinations across Kenya.
By Road: Guests can drive from Nairobi through the scenic Great Rift Valley and Narok town to the Maasai Mara. The journey covers approximately 260–280 km and takes around 5–6 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. A 4x4 safari vehicle is recommended for comfort, especially during the rainy season.
Private Transfers & Safari Packages: Private road transfers, fly-in safaris, and tailor-made safari packages can be arranged through tour operators for a seamless travel experience. Airstrip transfers can also be organized directly by the lodge upon request.
Nearest Airstrip: Keekorok Airstrip, located approximately 10 minutes from the lodge, provides convenient connections from Nairobi and other major safari destinations.
Located deep inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Muthu Keekorok Lodge enjoys one of the most strategic wildlife-viewing locations in Kenya. As the first lodge ever built in the Maasai Mara, it sits directly along major wildlife migration routes and offers excellent game viewing throughout the year.
July to October is the most popular and rewarding time to visit. During these dry months, wildlife gathers around water sources, grass is shorter, and sightings of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and buffalo become easier. This period also coincides with the Great Wildebeest Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebras move through the Mara ecosystem. Keekorok's location places guests close to the migration corridors, making it an excellent base for witnessing this natural spectacle.
January to March offers another fantastic safari season. The weather is generally warm and dry, visitor numbers are lower than during migration season, and predator sightings are often exceptional. This is an ideal time for photographers and travelers seeking a quieter safari experience.
During the short rains (November–December), the landscape becomes lush and green, birdlife is abundant, and the reserve is less crowded. Wildlife viewing remains good, and the scenery is particularly beautiful for photography.
The long rains (April–May) bring the lowest visitor numbers and often the best accommodation rates. While some roads can become muddy, guests enjoy greener landscapes, newborn animals, and a more exclusive safari atmosphere.
Located inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, reducing travel time to wildlife areas.
