Responsible Travel

Travel that respects the wild

Tourism should fund conservation, not exploit it. Every safari we design follows four respect pillars; wildlife, communities, culture and planet, with specific, verifiable commitments behind each.

Four Pillars

What we commit to, on every trip

Sixteen written commitments, four pillars. Every one is auditable.

01

Wildlife

Respect the wildlife

Tourism should not interrupt the very thing it came to see. Our guides operate to standards stricter than the law requires, because long-term sightings depend on long-term restraint.

  • Minimum approach distances and off-road limits enforced by every guide.
  • No cheetah chasing, no surrounding predators, no flash photography at night.
  • Conservancy stays prioritised over crowded public parks where possible.
  • Anti-poaching contributions included in every Mara and Laikipia booking.
02

Communities

Respect the communities

The bush is somebody's neighbourhood. We work with the people whose names are on the title deeds, not just the ones with the prettiest brochures.

  • Community-owned lodges and conservancy partners featured in every itinerary.
  • Local guides employed directly, not subcontracted from Nairobi.
  • School visits arranged only where genuinely welcomed and beneficial.
  • Fair wages and staff housing standards audited before we partner with any property.
03

Culture

Respect the culture

Cultural encounters belong to the communities, not the cameras. Every interaction is designed by local elders, on their terms, with their share built into the cost.

  • Cultural visits designed with community leaders, not staged for cameras.
  • Photography consent always obtained, and always optional.
  • Travellers briefed on dress codes, greetings and local customs before arrival.
  • Revenue-share agreements with communities for all cultural experience fees.
04

Planet

Respect the planet

Aviation will always be a problem; we don't pretend otherwise. We minimise where we can, offset honestly, and choose suppliers who run their lodges like they share the planet too.

  • Carbon offset option included in every booking, calculated per route, not a flat fee.
  • Eco-certified lodges prioritised; solar, water recycling, waste management.
  • Single-use plastic banned across every Imara vehicle and packed lunch.
  • Digital documents by default; printed itineraries only on request.
Every booking funds what it visits.

We don't just talk about responsible tourism. We build it into the price, the route and the partnerships, so the right things happen even when no one is watching.

“Imara” means strongin Swahili. We build every safari with that same strength — expert knowledge, honest pricing, and relentless attention to detail.
