Akagera National Park is Rwanda's premier wildlife destination and one of Africa's most successful conservation stories. Situated in eastern Rwanda along the Tanzanian border, the park covers approximately 1,122 square kilometers and protects a diverse range of ecosystems, including open savannahs, wetlands, woodlands, lakes, papyrus swamps, and rolling hills.
Named after the Akagera River, which flows along its eastern boundary, the park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife and is the only place in Rwanda where visitors can experience a traditional Big Five safari.
