Mara Serena Safari Lodge sits on a high ridge in the Mara Triangle — the quieter, western third of the reserve — with panoramic views over the savannah and the river below. It suits couples and photographers who want five-star service, a pool with a view and the shortest possible drives to the northern river-crossing points in migration season. Sarova Mara Game Camp, near the Talek gate, is our value-luxury recommendation: spacious luxury tents with private decks, excellent food, a strong kids' programme and easy access to the reserve's predator-rich central plains — ideal for families and first-timers who want the tented experience without the top-tier price.
Beyond our flagship pair, these are the properties we recommend most often when guests want something specific. We book all of them directly as part of a tailor-made itinerary.
From July to October, position beats polish. Crossings happen along the Mara River in the reserve's west and north, so camps in the Mara Triangle and along the northern river bends get you there before the crowds — Mara Serena and Governors' Camp are the classic choices, with Angama Mara perched directly above the Triangle. From conservancy camps you can absolutely still do crossing days; your guide simply starts earlier. Outside migration season, conservancy camps arguably offer the better overall game viewing thanks to night drives and off-road access.
