June marks the welcome return of the dry season after the long rains. The landscape begins to dry and thin, water sources shrink, and wildlife concentrates in predictable areas — exactly the conditions that make for classic, productive game drives. Days are warm and sunny while mornings can be genuinely cool, so layers are useful.

It's also the curtain-raiser for the migration's most famous chapter. The herds push north through the central and northern Serengeti, gathering toward the Mara River ahead of the crossings that begin in July. June offers near-peak conditions while still being a touch quieter and slightly less expensive than the August high — making early June particularly attractive.
