Cookie Policy
How Imara Africa Safaris uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the website running, understand how it’s used, and remember your preferences. Plain-English, with browser-by-browser instructions for managing or disabling cookies. Linked from our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by the websites you visit. As is common practice with almost all professional sites, we use cookies to keep things running smoothly, improve your experience, understand how the site is used, and remember the preferences you’ve set. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to control it.
By continuing to use this Website, you consent to the use of cookies in accordance with this policy. You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings — see the per-browser instructions below.
Four categories
The cookies we use, at a glance
Essential
Always onRequired for the website to work — session management, security, CSRF protection, and the basics that keep the booking flow safe. These cannot be switched off.
Analytics
OptionalHelp us understand how visitors interact with the site (e.g. Google Analytics) so we can improve content and fix friction points. Aggregate behaviour, not your specific identity.
Marketing
OptionalUsed to deliver relevant safari content and measure campaign effectiveness. Only ever set with your consent, never to data brokers or list-buyers.
Preference
OptionalRemember your settings — language, currency, accessibility prefs — so the site behaves the same across visits and devices.
01What are cookies?
Cookies are tiny text files that websites send to your device while you’re browsing. The file is stored by your browser and can be read back the next time you visit, which lets the site remember things about you — whether you’re logged in, what currency you prefer, which pages you visited last time, and so on.
Cookies set by the site you’re visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by an embedded service (analytics, maps, video players) are third-party cookies — and they’re subject to the same controls.
Cookies cannot install software on your device, read files outside the cookie store, or access information beyond what your browser explicitly sends to the site. They’re a small, well-understood part of how the modern web works.
02How we use cookies
We use cookies for four reasons, which line up with the four categories above:
- To keep the site running. Essential cookies handle session, security, and booking-flow state. Without them, basics like signing in or completing a booking would break.
- To understand usage. Aggregate analytics tell us which pages are most useful, where people get stuck, and how to improve the site for everyone. Personal identity is not tracked — only patterns.
- To deliver relevant content. With your consent, marketing cookies let us share safari content that’s relevant to your interests and measure whether our campaigns are landing.
- To remember your choices. Preference cookies remember things like language, currency and accessibility settings so the site behaves the same across visits.
In most cases there is no industry-standard way to disable cookies without disabling the features they power. If you’re not sure whether you need them on, the safe option is to leave them on.
03The cookies we set
Email newsletter cookies
If you sign up for our newsletter, cookies may be used to remember that you’re subscribed and which content preferences you’ve set, so we don’t resurface a subscription prompt every time you return.
Form cookies
When you submit data via the contact or enquiry forms, cookies may be set to remember your details so we don’t ask you for the same information again on the next page.
Site-preferences cookies
Remember your language, currency, units (km / mi), and accessibility prefs (reduced motion, high contrast) so the site looks and feels consistent across visits and devices.
Session & security cookies
Handle authenticated sessions, CSRF protection, and rate-limiting on sensitive endpoints. These are essential and cannot be disabled separately from the rest of the site working.
04Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by trusted third parties on our behalf. We only enable a third-party service if it meaningfully improves the experience or helps us run the business.
Google Analytics
Helps us understand how visitors use the site — which pages are most read, where people drop off, which content drives planning conversations. Tracks aggregate behaviour and device type, never your personal identity.
Google Maps & Places
Used on destination and itinerary pages to render maps, search places, and pin lodges or parks. The cookies set are Google’s own — see the Google privacy policy for detail.
A/B testing
Occasionally we test small content or layout changes to make the site better. These cookies make sure you see a consistent variant during a test, so the experience doesn’t flicker between versions.
05Managing your preferences
Most modern browsers let you control cookies in granular ways: block all, accept only first-party, delete cookies on close, or clear them by site. The consent banner we display on first visit lets you accept or reject non-essential categories with a single click; you can reopen those controls any time with the button below, or change your choice through your browser settings.
Blocking essential cookies will break parts of the site — sign-in, booking flow, and form submissions all rely on session cookies. Block analytics or marketing freely if you prefer; block essentials only if you’re comfortable with reduced functionality.
06Disabling cookies (per browser)
Quick deep-links to the official documentation for the four most-used browsers:

Chrome
- support.apple.com/.../safari/sfri11471/mac
Safari
- support.mozilla.org/.../clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
Firefox
- support.microsoft.com/.../microsoft-edge
Edge
Using a different browser? Search its official help pages for “cookies” or “site data” — every modern browser exposes the same basic controls.
07Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, regulatory developments, or feedback from travellers. Material changes will be flagged on the site for a reasonable period and dated below.
