Questions Before You Trust Us
Honest answers to the questions travellers ask before booking. If yours isn't here, reach out — we'll answer it personally.
Booking & planning
- How far in advance should I book?
- For high season (July–October, December–February), we recommend 6–9 months. Shoulder season trips can often be arranged in 3–4 months. Gorilla permits should be booked as early as possible.
- Can I customise a pre-built itinerary?
- Absolutely. Every itinerary on our site is a starting point. We adjust routes, lodges, pace, and activities around your priorities — there's no fixed template.
- What deposit do you require?
- A deposit of typically around 30% of the total trip value confirms your safari, though it's not fixed — the exact amount varies by safari type and what you agree with your safari curator. The balance follows before departure, and gorilla permits are paid in full at booking.
- Do you offer group safaris?
- Yes — we run small-group departures (max 8 guests) on select routes. These offer the same quality at a lower per-person price. See our group safaris page for upcoming dates.
Safety & support
- Is East Africa safe for safari travellers?
- Yes. The regions we operate in — national parks, conservancies, and established tourism circuits — are well-protected and regularly visited by thousands of travellers. Our guides are trained in first aid and emergency protocols.
- What if something goes wrong on trip?
- Our 24/7 operations desk in Nairobi monitors every transfer and check-in. We have AMREF Flying Doctors medevac cover, backup vehicles within 2 hours, and direct relationships with every lodge and camp.
- Do I need travel insurance?
- Travel insurance is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend comprehensive cover including medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and baggage. We can suggest suitable providers.
On safari
- What should I pack?
- We send a customised packing list based on your specific destinations, season, and activities. In general: neutral colours, layers for morning cold, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes.
- Will I have phone signal and WiFi?
- Most lodges and camps offer WiFi (often limited). Mobile coverage varies — good in Kenya and Rwanda, patchy in remote Tanzanian and Ugandan parks. We provide a local SIM if needed.
- Are safaris suitable for children?
- Yes — we specialise in family safaris with age-appropriate activities, child-friendly lodges, and adjusted game drive schedules. Most parks welcome children of all ages; gorilla trekking requires guests to be 15+.
